Omega Network for Action is in Washington, D.C., for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference, bringing the work of its James E. Clyburn Leadership Institute directly into one of the nation’s major public-policy convenings. Established by ONFA in 2021, JECLI is a 12-month leadership-development program that provides Fellows with mentorship and training in areas including campaign financing, organizing principles, and coalition building. ALC55 runs September 16–20 under the theme “Rooted, Ready & Rising,” as CBCF also marks its 50th anniversary.
The importance of connecting history with the next generation came into focus as Congressman James E. Clyburn shared the deeply personal story of his father, who was denied educational opportunities, later taught himself enough to enter college, and ultimately received his degree posthumously. Clyburn said the experience had a “profound impact” on him. That intergenerational exchange reflects the purpose behind JECLI: creating opportunities for emerging leaders to learn from experience, strengthen their skills, and prepare for public service. As ALC55 brings policymakers, advocates, community leaders, and organizations together in Washington, ONFA and JECLI are adding their own energy to a week centered on leadership, connection, and civic engagement.
